Method #1: mnemonic: The 4 Spiritual Laws.

Campus Crusade for Christ founder Bill Bright created what is “probably the most printed and most influential religious tract of all time” about sixty years ago. (J. Stephen Lang, “The Christian History Devotional”). Here’s the basic outline of the “Four Spiritual Laws”:

1. God Loves You and Offers a Wonderful Plan for Your Life (John 3:16; 10:10)
2. Man is Sinful and Separated from God; That’s Why We’re Not Experiencing God’s Love and Plan (Romans 3:23; 6:23)
3. Jesus Christ is God’s Only Provision for Man’s Sin; It’s Only Through Him that You can Experience God’s Love and Plan for Your Life (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6; John 14:6)
4. We Must Individually Receive Jesus Christ By Faith: That’s The Only Way You Can Experience God’s Love and Plan for Your Life (John 1:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:1-8; Revelation 3:28)

Easy to memorize and share upside-down, it allows another person to read the booklet while you explain when you do it this way. From the very beginning, our ministry began putting it online in dozens of languages, and it quickly proved an outstanding way to amplify the effect of this powerful tool - by making it available worldwide, 24/7/365 and giving readers a way to respond and receive long-term follow-up from a trained volunteer.

Method #2: questions: Evangelism Explosion/Sharing Jesus Without Fear

“Evangelism Explosion” is another very effective evangelistic tool created by Coral Ridge Ministries’ Dr. D. James Kennedy. Instead of being based on four proposals, (which aren’t universally accepted as true), it uses questions:

1. Do you know for sure that you are going to be with God in Heaven?
2. If God were to ask you, “Why should I let you into My Heaven?” what would you say?

Businessman Bill Fay’s “Share Jesus Without Fear” plan is similar in that it uses five questions instead of the two used by EE:

1. Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
2. To you, who is Jesus?
3. Do you believe there are a heaven and a hell?
4. If you died right now, where would you go?
5. If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?

Because statistics reveal that people needed to have the gospel shared with them an average of seven times, we train our Online Missionaries to use questions like these to try to verify each of our contacts have received Christ.

Method #3: Personal: Testimony

It’s also part of our training and mentoring to encourage our Online Missionaries to refine their personal testimonies. This has a twofold purpose: it gives them a different way of sharing the gospel, and it personally connects the contact to the Online Missionary. It’s a natural transition to discipleship as the Online Missionary simply shares what God is currently doing in their life. The following outline for preparing a testimony is found in Bill Bright’s booklet, “Five Steps to Sharing your Faith”:

1. Describe what your life was like before Christ
2. Describe how you came to know Christ
3. Describe what your life has been like since you trusted Christ

One of our Online Missionaries puts it this way: "I can freely share how Jesus has solved so many problems in my life and He has given me hope and fulfillment in life where I was empty before."

Any method is bound to feel a little awkward at first; but being prepared is useful. As one of these authors was known to put it, “better canned than frozen.” One of my favorite Bible teachers, Ken Boa, a Dallas Theological Seminary and Oxford University graduate who has written over 40 books, confessed it was initially a struggle when he needed to share his faith with his own father. He ended up finding the “question” style of “Share Jesus Without Fear” a gentle and effective way to share with his dad.
