Uganda

Population: 39,032,380

Rank: 5th, Central Africa, 38th world

Languages: (Official) English
Major People Groups: 64% Bantu, 27% Nilotic

Pray for: integrity in government • relief from conflict • those bereaved, harmed and displaced by civil war • the many Christian ministries and Christian majority • those attracted to Islam

Notorious during my childhood in the 1970s as the country of vicious dictator Idi Amin Dada, Uganda survived his brutal regime and remains a predominately Christian nation, with about a 37% evangelical population. However, situated as it is in the northern part of central Africa, Islam is the fastest growing religion here.

Uganda Conditions

President Museveni came to power following two military coups in the 1980s and has been in power for 23 years.

LRA leader Joseph Kony

No peace has been lasting, and there has been a long-term Civil war with the "Lord's Resistance Army", led by occultic Joseph Kony and responsible for the kidnapping of thousands of children to impress into the rebel forces, which operate in Uganda, the DRC and the Central African Republic.

More than a ten thousand have been killed in this war, and more than a million are internally displaced.

Dominic Ongwen

Dominic Ongwen, Kony's former commander of the LRA, is currently on trial in the Hague, accused of 70 war crimes, including ordering cannibalism of captive civilians.

The LRA is accused of slaughtering more than 100,000 people and abducting 60,000 children in its bloody rebellion against Kampala that began in 1986.

Life expectancy in Uganda is about 60 years, and infant mortality is relatively high; but both statistics have been steadily improving over the past ten years.

Uganda is bordered by the DRC to the west, South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, Tanzania and Rwanda to the south.

“I was in a Catholic family, later forcefully converted to Islam by my aunt who lived with but on that condition that I must become a muslem to continue staying with her. I sent to Quranic School I studies for Quran for 3 years, I was given a Scholarship for further studies in Quran in Saudi Arabia In 1988 but God did Allow that to happen one morning and said I am going back Parents. When I went back to the original Catholic Family I was confused I remained without God I could neither go to the Mosque nor Catholic my life turned to smoking and drinking alcohol at young age until Jesus came into my in 1997 my life was changed and I became a testimony for the salvation others.” —OM Godfrey

Member Prayer Requests/Praise Report from last week

Deborah: Pray for her church. They will be having spring revival Thursday. A pastor from another church will be conducting the revival. They hold one in spring and one in fall. Many funerals at church - pray new members will be added to the church.

Janis - spoke to Brittany. Josh is finally starting to pick up the pace of healing, going to gym four days a week and getting stronger. He’s 29.

Alice - much better. A friend is an orthopedic surgeon. Her broken rib took exactly 2 weeks to heal, as he predicted.
