Kenya is named after Mt. Kenya, located right in the middle of the country. It's 17,057ft and is an extinct volcano. The name's full meaning is unclear, but seems to indicate they thought of it as "God's resting place."
Dr. Johann Ludwig Krapf founded the first Christian mission in Kenya in 1846. His headquarters was on the coast among the Mijikenda people. He was the first to translate the Bible into Swahili.
Kenya is #16 on Open Doors' "World Watch List," despite the fact that it is a predominately (80%) Christian nation and is said to enjoy relative religious freedom. The northern border with Somalia has been a problem since Kenya was a British Colony (pre-1963). Sixty-seven were killed and more than 175 wounded in a mass shooting at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi in September 2013, and four men took 700 hostage at Garissa University in April 2015. 147 were killed, 79 were injured, with the Muslims being freed and the Christians being killed or raped. The al-Qaeda-aligned Muslim extremist group al-Shabaab took responsibility for both these attacks.

Approximately 80 percent of the population is Christian and 10 percent is Muslim. Groups constituting less than 1 percent of the population include Hindus, Sikhs, and Bahais. Most of the remaining population adheres to various traditional religious beliefs. Of the Christian population, 58 percent is Protestant and 42 percent is Roman Catholic. Most of the Muslim population lives in North Eastern and Coast provinces, where religion and ethnicity are often inextricably linked. There are approximately 500,000 people in the Dadaab refugee camp, most of whom are Muslims. (source)

Widespread corruption seems to be making legal protection of persecuted believers inconsistent, so aggressive Islamic oppression (by Al-Shabaab and other militant groups) has been increasing.
There is poor availability of medical assistance for Kenyans. It's estimated there are 1.6 doctors per 10,000. About 6.3% of the adult population have HIV, and there were 15 million cases of malaria in 2006. An astonishing 27% of female Kenyans undergo FGM although it was banned in Kenya in 2011.
Child labor is common in Kenya. Most working children are active in agriculture. In 2006, UNICEF estimated that up to 30% of girls in the coastal areas of Malindi, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Diani were subject to prostitution. Most of the prostitutes in Kenya are aged 9–18. The Ministry of Gender and Child Affairs employed 400 child protection officers in 2009. The causes of child labour include poverty, the lack of access to education and weak government institutions. Kenya has ratified Convention No. 81 on labour inspection in industries and Convention No. 129 on labour inspection in agriculture.
Although Kenya has the strongest economy in East-Central Africa, wealth tends to be concentrated in the upper class. The majority of the population lives below the poverty line. 75% of workers are in agriculture, which can be a very unreliable source of income.

Life expectancy in Kenya is about 62 years, and infant mortality is about 53 per thousand.

Kenya is on Africa's Eastern Coast, bordering the Indian Ocean, between Somalia and Tanzania

“I live with my family in Nairobi, Kenya, my father was very sick and dying in Hospital in Kisumu. I loved him so much and was really afraid that I could loose him. He requested me to help him build a church a piece of land he donated to be his last 10% to God. I bought materials and within a few weeks, the church house was complete. Our local PAG pastor who presided on the opening day requested me to be present on that day, they prayed for me and my life changed to date. I was advised to seek God face and I will find favours with Him, This how I came to meet with (GMO Online Missionary) Cindy through website, she has been a blessing to my life and has helped me grow in my christian life, she directed me to a church in Nairobi, CPC Church where joined other Christians, nowadays, I find myself participating in church activities like leading in prayer, bibles study, praise and worship in our church. I have learned to share my Christian life experiences, study bible and praying together with others.” —Kenyan Eric Ogonda
