Dear Family and Friends:

There are lots of ways to look at the world from the perspective of the Great Commission. One way is by geographic and political boundaries. (Matthew 28:19’s “all nations.”) So you could talk about a missionary to Africa, (a continent) or to China (a country).

More recently, a missionary may be reaching out to Kurds in Syria or the Han Chinese in Taiwan. A friend went to Finland, ended up working with a large number of Iraqi immigrants there, and became convinced that was indeed why God sent him there. That’s looking at missions from a "people group" standpoint. (Revelation 5:9, 7:9)

The 10/40 window concept helped us look at the world in yet another way. Missiologists realized the majority of the world’s least-reached people are located between 10° and 40° North latitude. It’s really a convenient euphemism, because what we’re talking about is the Muslim-, Hindu- and Buddhism-dominated part of the world. So that’s more or less looking at the world from the standpoint of the dominant religion in a region.

We can also look at the world in other ways: ethnicity, economics or age. For instance, Global Media Outreach’s founder, Walt Wilson, once wrote me, “I can tell you as a city kid I never heard the gospel and that is true of every inner city kid in the U.S. today. We are losing the battle in America among our own.

Our outreach transcends geographic and political borders. Even personal things like ethnicity and age don’t matter that much—more significant challenges to our mission are economic/education and language barriers worldwide.

But God has been working to reduce even those barriers in unanticipated ways. From our side, as we get better funding and work more efficiently, we can begin to advertise in creative new ways and reach new people. From the side of the audience, inexpensive web-connected devices are bringing more and more online for the first time to experience exposure to the gospel.

Our recent boom in the Spanish language is an exciting example of the convergence of these effects. As I look at the numbers, I see God working here—because as we have advertised and provided new content in the Spanish language, we’ve seen a tremendous response, one that far outstrips what the population of these countries would suggest. Just last month, for instance, we had 41,916 visitors from tiny Costa Rica. And in Bolivia, one of the poorest countries in the Americas, 33,750 were exposed to the gospel.

The Spanish language is the #3 language on the Internet, and the 2nd most-spoken language on earth. Our outreach to Spanish speakers has been more successful than we are currently able to handle—a good problem to have, but we need help! If you know Christians who can speak Spanish, please help them get to our invitation to see how to join us as an online volunteer:

Thank you so much for your support of our ministry and your prayers that God will continue to help us be creative and efficient in our attempts to reach every creature (Mark 16:15) with the life-changing gospel of Christ.

Love,
